Consistency of the monocular EKF-SLAM algorithm for 3 different landmark parametrizations

چکیده
We benchmark in this article three different parametrizations for punctual landmarks in monocular 6DOF EKF-SLAM. These parametrizations are homogeneous points (HM), inverse-distance points (IDP, better known as inversedepth), and the new anchored homogeneous points (AHP). The discourse used for describing them is chosen to highlight their differences and similarities, showing that they are just incremental variations of ones with respect to the others. We show for the first time a complete comparison of HP against IDP, two methods that are getting popular, and introduce also for the first time AHP, whose description falls precisely between the other two. The benchmarking is done by running all algorithms on the same data and by using the well-established NEES consistency analysis. Our conclusion is that the new AHP parametrization is the most interesting one for monocular EKF-SLAM (followed by IDP and then HP) because it greatly postpones the apparition of EKF inconsistency.

متن کاملEffects of Moving Landmark’s Speed on Multi-Robot Simultaneous Localization and Mapping in Dynamic Environments
Even when simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM) solutions have been broadly developed, the vast majority of them relate to a single robot performing measurements in static environments. Researches show that the performance of SLAM algorithms deteriorates under dynamic environments. In this paper, a multi-robot simultaneous localization and mapping (MR-SLAM) system is implemented within a...
متن کاملVisual EKF-SLAM from Heterogeneous Landmarks
Many applications require the localization of a moving object, e.g., a robot, using sensory data acquired from embedded devices. Simultaneous localization and mapping from vision performs both the spatial and temporal fusion of these data on a map when a camera moves in an unknown environment. Such a SLAM process executes two interleaved functions: the front-end detects and tracks features from...
متن کاملOn Feature Parameterization for EKF-Based Monocular SLAM
In the last years, the Monocular SLAM problem was widely studied, to allow the simultaneous reconstruction of the environment and the localization of the observer, by using a single camera. As for other SLAM problems, a frequently used feature for the representation of the world, is the 3D point. Differently from other SLAM problems, because of the perspective model of the camera, in Monocular ...
متن کاملOn the Consistency Analyzing of A-SLAM for UAV Navigating in GNSS Denied Environment
In this paper, EKF Based A-SLAM concept is discussed in detail by presenting the formulas and MATLAB Simulink model, along with results. The UAV kinematic model and state-observation models for the EKF Based A-SLAM are developed to analyze the consistency. The covariance value caused by the EKF structure is analyzed. This value was calculated by filtering with error between the UAV’s actual and...
